Wellbeing

“Work Safe Home Safe is not an
initiative, it is a change to the way we
behave and think about safety; to
embrace each and every one of us in a
family environment where we all care
about ensuring that you and I go
home safely each night.”

John Trounson, Group Managing Director

Work Safe
Home Safe

Work Safe Home Safe embraces every aspect of safety and wellbeing at
BUUK – our physical safety, our health and fitness, our mental health and
happiness, our work and social connections, and our sense of purpose.

It fosters a foundation of care that makes safety and wellbeing a
behaviour, an attitude, a value, and our motivation. As critical to our
office-based colleagues as it is to those working out on construction
sites, Work Safe Home Safe connects us all. It is our way of life and is
embedded and reinforced in everything we do.

Feeling supported
and connected

There are lots of ways we can feel more connected, build bonds, and boost our
sense of wellbeing at work.  We can get active with fitness classes, lunchtime
walks and running clubs. We can get into the zone with mindfulness and
yoga sessions, and we can get together with social gatherings and team-building
events.  And when we need extra support, we have the people, programmes, professionals,
and provisions in place to help us.

The Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) is available to everyone at BUUK. An
excellent health and wellbeing portal, the EAP is confidential and accessed online
or by phone. It also has a wealth of resources – from advice on eating well,
sleeping better, and exercising more to financial health checks, access to qualified
nurses and counsellors, safeguarding support, and more.

A boost for our wellbeing
and community

Relationships underpin our safe and supportive workplace, and we are there for each
other. BUUK’s team of Mental Health First Aiders work across the business and are
trained by Mental Health England.

They support us and signpost us to the best help available. And with regular Health
MOTs on offer to all, we can take better care of our physical and emotional health.

Helping others often boosts our own sense of wellbeing and purpose. BUUK actively
encourages its people to support projects and causes that mean something to them.
Partnering with OnHand, an on-demand volunteering app, the business makes 8 hours
of paid company time available for us to volunteer, individually or as part of a team, in
our communities or anywhere in the UK.
