“There are so many exciting and
rewarding Early Years Career Pathways at
BUUK. We have an inclusive community
here, where everyone can bring their best
selves to work, develop their skills, make
progress, and thrive – right from the very
start of their careers.”
Louise, Senior HR Business Partner
Raising awareness of
STEM careers
At BUUK, we are working to raise awareness of STEM (science, technology,
engineering and mathematics) careers in our communities – helping break down
stereotypes, raise aspirations in young learners and bring STEM careers to life.
BUUK STEM Ambassadors introduce children from primary schools and beyond to
the wide variety of careers within BUUK and demonstrate how people working in
STEM jobs can significantly impact our world.
Supporting work experience
in schools
We know the value of work experience in schools. Work experience placements are
available here at BUUK to secondary school students providing opportunities for
them to gain hands-on experience and grow in confidence. Guided by BUUK
mentors, young people still in full-time education, are guided to develop life and
workplace skills, and prepare for interviews and the world of work beyond school.
Exciting opportunities
for apprentices
An apprenticeship with BUUK is a great choice for school leavers looking for their
first step into work and onto a fulfilling career pathway with exciting prospects. The
BUUK Apprentices Programme combines practical experience, a salary, training
and mentoring, and the chance to gain formal qualifications – even a degree.
“We’re getting four years of
experience in the industry,
plus the opportunity of
getting a degree.”
Niall, BUUK Apprentice
Dynamic programmes
for graduates
For university leavers, the BUUK Graduate Development Programme provides an
inspiring framework for building skills and connections, gaining valuable experience
and benefitting from a bespoke talent development programme to support
individual career aspirations. Working within different BUUK teams, our graduates
are helping transform the UK utilities infrastructure landscape and deliver the
transition to smart grids and zero carbon solutions.
“I joined BUUK’s Graduate Scheme after an MEng in Civil Engineering. It was a great opportunity to develop professionally, with experience across departments. I’m now a Chartered Engineer through the
Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers.”
Tom, Head of Design and Records
