The Asset Adoption team is responsible for the end-to-end process in the adoption of all essential utilities (gas, electricity, water, wastewater, and fibre networks) built by Adoption Partners (UIPs).

There are several different roles and responsibilities within the team, each working closely with the different UIP’s to ensure the best outcome for all parties.

The Asset Adoption market is extremely competitive and independent utility companies seeking asset adopters have several different companies to choose from. Our team deals with all aspects of asset adoption, going on to own and operate networks constructed by UIPs in perpetuity.

The Business Intelligence team performs analysis for a wide range of requests from across the business using data in different formats and from various platforms. It ensures the integrity and control of the BI system and reports created to ensure compliance to business process.

Through data-driven insights about processes and strategies, the work of the department can inform and shape our strategy and operations.

The role of the Construction team is to work with our customers to systematically prepare for their utility networks to be installed.

Roles within the team can be field-based or office-based. Within an environment where working as a team is key to continue to achieve results, we continually review our schedules, liaise with our customers and our engineers to ensure planned works can proceed. There are also support personnel in the administration area of the department who work closely with our material and plant suppliers.

Customer Service includes a wide range of engaging roles including customer-facing, technical, analytical, and project management positions.

Our Customer Experience Team and Analysts collate and analyse customer feedback to find ways to improve.

Whilst our Data Assurance and New Connections Teams aid customers registering their utilities supplies and answer their queries.

Lastly our Customer Engagement Team assists customers with a diverse range of general service needs, and All teams work to deliver our mission and values daily and to proactively shape and better our customer experience.

The Engineering and Operations team is responsible for the operation and maintenance of a wide range of infrastructure and ensures the safe, continued supply to customers.

Covering strategy and planning, operations and maintenance, compliance and support, the roles within the department are very broad. All functions ensure we meet our customer/stakeholder expectations, drive optimal commercial value, and deliver our legal and regulatory obligations. The department’s remit also includes identifying and developing growth opportunities and managing our transition to Net Zero.

On a day-to-day basis, Facilities Management provides the tools and services that support the business doing business, by co-ordinating the needs of people and work in the physical workplace.

The team is responsible for all group facilities – buildings, grounds, and infrastructure etc. It ensures things run smoothly, safely and with minimal interruption; and that there are strategies in place to deal with both planned and unplanned maintenance requirements.

The Finance team is responsible for delivering the efficient financial management and controls needed to support all business activities.

The roles within the team are diverse, ranging from managing cashflow and fulfilling the day-to-day accounting functions to financial planning and analysis, and providing investment advice. The Finance team is central to BUUK, and the work it undertakes enables the business to operate effectively, ensures the needs of our suppliers, employees and investors are met, and that our strategic plans are supported.

Safety is a shared value throughout BUUK. The SHEQ team focuses on the Safety and Health of our people and the Environmental Impact and Quality of our operations.

The SHEQ team is responsible for advising and supporting our subsidiary operating companies, as well as central functions such as Transport, Facilities and HR. We work across the group delivering risk reduction initiatives including our Work Safe Home Safe programme, Engagement Events, Strategic Communications and Working Groups.

The Human Resources (HR) team interacts with everyone at BUUK people, making a real difference to their working lives and the success of the business.

The HR function helps deliver BUUK’s corporate strategy through successful people management practices. Spanning outreach and recruitment, payroll and benefits, and learning and development, the HR team manages everything to do with the employment of our staff and their career progression. The function also involves ensuring compliance with employment legislation and adhering to health and safety regulations.

The design teams work with our customers to take their plans for utilities provision and turn them into designs for multi-utility network solutions.

The work of the team involves calculating the demand of the properties, applying for this demand from upstream operators, and then designing the sizes and routes of utility infrastructure – making sure it satisfies regulations and customer requirements.

The records teams receive drawing updates and as-laid records from the design teams, in-house construction teams and our partners prior to checking and updating maps with the recorded position.

The role ​of the IT department is to securely design, build,
maintain and enhance ICT systems, services, and applications to meet the needs of users and external customers.

IT systems and service span the entire business and includes:

• Provision and management of end user devices
  (laptops, mobiles, tablets) and general office software.
• Management of robust server, network, and
  telecommunications estate.
• Development of in-house applications to enable
  business users to perform their role.
• Management of industry-wide systems required to
  operate utility networks – working with industry bodies
  to design and manage system change to benefit the
  company and customers.
• Coordination, organisation and execution of IT change projects from inception to completion.
• Leading the business in Cyber and Information security.

The Land Rights Team is responsible for securing the necessary land rights over the group’s assets to ensure we have unrestricted rights to access, lay, inspect, repair, and maintain our networks in perpetuity.

Land Rights Officers have their own portfolio of work, allowing them to build relationships with developers, provide excellent service and ensure contact continuity for our customers.

Tasks within the department include:

• Reviewing legal plans
• Providing instructions to solicitors
• Liaising with developers/landowners/DNOs
• Carrying out land searches to identify ownership
• Co-ordinating parties within transactions
• Facilitating agreements with upstream operators

The team liaises with the business as well as external solicitors, to ensure we meet the requirements and timescales for connection for our customers.

The Marketing & Communications department is responsible for making sure that information is clearly communicated to our external and internal customers.

The external marketing team is responsible for the branding of all BUUK’s subsidiary brands, updating and developing new websites, overseeing print and online campaigns to launch new products and services, delivering events, and managing our PR and social media presence.

The communications team is responsible for keeping internal colleagues up to date with all the group news and events. Managing all written, digital, social, visual, and audio content creation to keep internal colleagues connected and engaged across brands and business functions.

Both teams work closely together to manage media relations and the press, supported by external specialists and creatives on a diverse range of projects and initiatives.

Working within geographical areas, BUUK Project Managers (PMs) are responsible for managing and overseeing the installation of water, gas, electricity and fibre mains networks and services for our customers.

BUUK delivers a full multi-utility service. Our Project Managers oversee the delivery of the schemes on a day-to-day basis with the overriding objective of providing seamless and professional ‘single provider’ customer experiences. PMs are knowledgeable, contactable, and able to provide swift responses. They are fully trained and supported to ensure the highest standards of health and safety practice, management, communication and customer service are met.

The Procurement team is responsible for the lifecycle of supplier engagements, tendering works and contracting.

A bespoke supplier management platform facilitates business-wide appraisals of potential new suppliers, and ongoing review of their accreditations. administered by our Procurement Officer, with the support of the rest of the team, who engages with and supports suppliers and internal stakeholders.

Procurement Business Partners (PBPs), identify opportunities through a Category Management approach, sharing best practice, and a consistent approach to procurement activity. PBPs ensure spend is undertaken in line with both the business’s policies, and with the ethical procurement principles outlined by the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply. The team also includes a Business Analyst who uses data to identify potential gaps in compliance, opportunities to augment our offering to the business, and to provide reporting across all stakeholders.

The markets in which BUUK operate are subject to extensive regulatory requirements and scrutiny. The Regulation Team has a critical role in actively influencing evolving external regulatory policy, supporting the business to secure compliance with regulatory requirements, and informing business strategy.

The remit of Regulation and Compliance is broad – from helping to shape the development of regulatory provisions in new and evolving industries to identifying risks and supporting BUUK businesses to maintain compliance. A key role is supporting our colleagues to fully understand regulatory provisions, including the constraints they create as well as the opportunities they provide.

The sales department is responsible for growing business, managing all our valued customer relationships, and maintaining BUUK’s excellent reputation for service, quality, and safety.

Our various sales teams are dedicated, diligent and effective, which is why we secure exceptionally high levels of repeat business. There is a range of sales operations working across the group from B2B long-term relationship building, through to the promotion of B2C retail services, including, water, fibre, and heating. Sales roles are diverse, ranging from field-based Sales Managers to technical Tendering and Design Engineer positions.

The Transport department is responsible for directing, coordinating, planning, and overseeing tasks and operations involving any transportation activities, ensuring all safety and legal requirements are met.

Our Central Support Team assists the Transport team as the first port of call for Transport’s internal customers, the engineers, and drivers of BUUK. They assist drivers with whatever they may need including support if they have had an accident, breakdown, or need to book their vehicle in for maintenance.
