Our Culture

At BUUK, we all matter

We matter to the business, and we matter to each other.
We share a sense of mutual respect and belonging which underpins
our culture and creates a supportive environment where we do our
best – for our customers, for our colleagues and for ourselves.

What’s the culture like at BUUK?

Hear how our shared sense of mutual respect
and belonging underpins our culture and supports us all.

Trust matters in
our culture

We trust in the values and the direction of the business. We are trusted
to do our jobs and meet our goals, and we trust our teams to do the
same. Above all, we trust that it matters who we are and what we do, and
that we will be treated fairly, equally and with respect.

Nothing matters
more than our safety

Our Work Safe Home Safe behavioural safety programme
is part of our fabric, and safety is a shared priority for us
all. As well as being critical to our construction and
engineering colleagues, we know that the principles
of Work Safe Home Safe impact us all.

Wellbeing matters
to everyone

We learn about the things that help us lead happier, healthier lives.
We get active, get into the zone, and get together through a raft of
wellbeing initiatives. When we face trials, changes, and
challenges in our lives – as we all do – then we get the support we
need, from each other and from the business.

Feeling valued
matters

Great work and going the extra mile is
acknowledged by our managers and
colleagues, and we are motivated by positive
feedback and recognition. Financially, we are
rewarded with fair pay and can share in our
collective success with bonuses linked to
business-performance.

It matters that we can
be our best selves

We have lots of opportunities to develop our skills, discover
new talents and see a path of progression ahead. We feel
supported in our career ambitions to reach our full
potential. What matters most is that we feel proud to be
ourselves and to be part of BUUK.

As proud signatories of the Armed Forces Covenant, we are dedicated to supporting those who have served. We are delighted to have received the Bronze Award from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS), demonstrating our commitment to being a forces-friendly employer.

The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) is an initiative by the Ministry of Defence to encourage support for the armed forces within the business community. Through this scheme, we aim to inspire other organisations to join us in advocating for the welfare of defence personnel and their families.

At BUUK, we actively engage with Service Leavers through the Career Transition Partnership (CTP), promoting job opportunities and participating in career events. We understand veterans’ diverse qualifications and experiences and are dedicated to making their transition into civilian life as smooth as possible.

Recognising the unique challenges faced by those transitioning from military to civilian roles, we have established the Armed Forces Community Network. This inclusive group welcomes and supports veterans, service leavers, reservists, volunteers, and family members, providing a supportive environment for all.

Our journey does not stop here. We work to achieve the Silver and Gold awards as we continue to enhance our efforts in supporting the Armed Forces Community.
